We are very saddened to announce the passing of our Vigil brother Ernest P "Ernie" Childs. Ernie passed away at his assisted care facility Monday morning.
Ernie had a long career in Scouting spanning nearly 50 years. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 70 in downtown Charleston for many years. He received the Vigil Honor in 1979. He was also a recipient of the Founder's Award and a member of the lodge's Hall of Fame.
Ernie was born January 25. 1942 to Margaretta Pringle Childs and St Julien Ravenel Childs in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Charleston High School and worked many years at Wholesale Electronics on East Bay Street. He loved and served the Boy Scouts and was a faithful member of the Church of the Resurrection in North Charleston. He was a long time Clerk in the Radio Industry.
There will be a service Friday, November 22nd at 4pm at the Church of the Resurrection located at 5101 N Rhett Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. A reception / gathering of friends will follow at Ernie's house in North Charleston.
This year's Vigil Call out ceremony on December 6th will be dedicated in his honor, along with the other five Vigils we've lost.
